I grew up with this dish and I remember begging my mum to teach me the recipe. It is simple but delicious.


The amazing thing is that it is quick and easy.


Prep time: 10 minutes

Cooking 20 minutes

Total time: 30 minutes

Serves 2

Ingredients

  • 375g 5% mince

  • 1 medium onion

  • 2 medium carrots

  • 1 cup rice, 2 1/2 cups of water

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 1tsp salt and pepper

  1. Start by preparing your rice, 1 cup with 2 1/2 cups of water. Bring to a boil and then simmer, stirring occasionally so that the rice does not stick to the bottom of the pan.

  2. Peel and grate the carrots. Dice the onion. In a heated pan add 2 tbsp oil.

  3. Fry the carrots and onion until they are fragrant and the onion turns translucent.

  4. In a different pan, fry the mince and season.

  5. Once the mince has been cooked. Transfer the carrots and onion into the pan and give it a good stir.

  6. The rice by now should be ready. You will know it is ready as all of the water will be absorbed.

  7. Add the rice into the pan with the mince, carrots and onion. Give everything a good mix.

  8. Season with salt and pepper to your liking to enhance the flavour.

  9. Enjoy!
