These rolls are like cinnamon rolls but unfortunately I am not a massive fan of cinnamon. I'm a bit traumatised from doing the cinnamon challenge in my child hood. So I have to learn and adapt! The rolls are amazing once they come out of the oven, the gooey chocolate combined with the soft roll is to die for!

Serves 6

Prep time: 1hr 30 minutes

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Total time: 2hr

Ingredients

For dough

  • 3 cups Allinsons bread flour

  • 3/4 cup warm milk

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 55g unsalted butter

  • 1 egg

For the filling

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup Dr Oetker cocoa powder

  • 113g butter

  • 100g Dr Oetker chocolate

  1. Combine the yeast and warm milk in a small bowl and set it aside for 10 minutes.

  2. In a large bowl combine the flour, sugar and butter. Cut the butter into small cubes and rub it into the flour so it resembles fine sand.

  3. Once the yeast has become foamy add it into the flour. Whisk the egg and also add it in the flour.

  4. Mix everything together with a spoon and then transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes.

  5. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a tea towel and allow to rise for 1 hour.

  6. For the filling, simply combine all of the ingredients together until it is smooth.

  7. Once the dough has doubled in size, transfer to a lightly floured surface and use your fingers to shape the dough into a rectangle. (start to preheat the oven to 180C)

  8. Grab a rolling pin and continue to roll the dough into a rectangle.

  9. When you are satisfied with the length. Start applying the filling evenly onto the dough.

  10. Roll the dough into a log and use two fingers to measure out the width of the rolls, cut it with a sharp knife.

  11. Place the rolls into a well buttered tray.

  12. Cover with a tea towel and allow to rise for another 20 minutes.

  13. Cook in the oven for 30 minutes or until the rolls are golden.

  14. Serve and enjoy!
